【EMGO-TECH】has completed a Series B financing of over 50 million RMB and increased the product layout of wind detection radar
Release date:2023-11-20
Reading volume:463

36Kr learned that Emgo-Tech has recently completed a Series B financing of over 50 million yuan, with investors including CNNC Fund, Juncheng Venture Capital and other institutions, and Yongpan Venture Capital serving as the exclusive financial advisor. This round of financing is mainly used for the mass production of new laser measurement equipment.

Founded in March 2017, Emgo-Tech is a laser industry company that focuses on "core components+system applications". It has vertical integration from high-end passive components to laser equipment and can provide a complete set of laser detection solutions. Emgo-Tech completed over 50 million yuan in Series A and Series A+financing in October 2022.

Deping Zhao, founder of Emgo-Tech, introduced to 36Kr that Emgo-Tech is mainly based on core technologies such as fiber laser detection and 3D imaging, expanding its product application scenarios. At present, there are three main business directions: meteorological support, wind power generation, core components, etc.

In the past two years, wind power generation has been a key incremental business scenario for Emgo-Tech. In response to the pain points of limited detection accuracy, low localization of core components and modules, high cost, and low popularity of existing wind measurement methods, the company focuses on the domestic substitution of laser wind measurement radar equipment.

Relying on its own meteorological support business technology, Guangheng Technology's self-developed and self-produced wind measurement products include: cabin type, ground-based, 3D scanning type, individual soldier type, wind tower type and other wind measurement radars, which can be used in application scenarios such as wind resource assessment, wind farm disaster prevention and reduction, optimization of wind airport group control, wind turbine yaw measurement, and complex terrain network wind measurement. Currently, the localization rate has reached over 95%.

Deping Zhao, founder of Emgo-Tech, introduced to 36Kr that wind radar products are important tools in the wind power industry for measuring wind speed and direction. By transmitting and receiving microwave signals, the characteristics of the interaction between microwave signals and airflow are utilized to measure wind speed and direction.

The direction of wind is constantly changing, and wind turbines need to maintain a direct direction towards the wind in order to maximize wind energy utilization. Generally speaking, a 1% wind speed uncertainty brings about a 3% uncertainty in power generation, so even a small deviation can bring huge costs to the owner and affect their project revenue.

When the wind condition data collected by the wind radar is connected to the main control, pre control can be achieved to increase power generation, reduce load, and reduce wind turbine fatigue.

Deping Zhao introduced that wind measurement radar can achieve wind measurement 20 seconds in advance, combined with the yaw system and pitch function of the wind turbine, so that the wind turbine leader can stay in the position of "maximum wind energy" for a long time, increasing the average power generation by about 3%.

When facing severe weather conditions such as typhoons, wind sensors can also capture the upcoming extreme wind conditions in advance, optimize pitch control and achieve early pitch control, reduce unit load, and greatly improve unit safety and stability.

Deping Zhao mentioned that in the next 1-2 years, most wind turbine manufacturers will use wind measurement radars as standard equipment to enhance the competitiveness of their overall solutions. It is expected that the wind power wind measurement market will grow by hundreds of millions of yuan annually in the future.

In terms of customer cooperation in the wind power business, Emgo-Tech has established in-depth exchanges and cooperation with multiple wind power host factory brands.

The basic business of Emgo-Tech also includes meteorological support products, core components, and other products.

The main application scenarios of meteorological support equipment are in airports, where aircraft takeoff and landing often face wind shear phenomena (sudden changes in wind direction and speed). Emgo-Tech has launched a laser cloud altimeter, which can detect the height of the cloud base in three layers. When there are no clouds, it can provide vertical visibility to help pilots identify and avoid flight risks.

In terms of core components, the company provides multiple product types including isolators, ring-shaped devices, beam splitters, etc., with thousands of models, and is at the forefront of the industry in the field of ultrafast lasers (high-end passive devices).

In terms of founding team, founder Deping Zhao graduated from Sun Yat sen University in Physics and has over 10 years of sales and management experience in the optical industry. He has previously served as the head of the laser business unit of a well-known domestic listed company. Vice General Manager Dingxiang Cao is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of National Defense Technology. He has participated in the research of the "Shenguang III" project at the Eighth Institute of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics, serving as the leader of the national "863 Plan" scientific research project and a project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The company has established industry university research cooperation bases with multiple research institutes such as Sun Yat sen University and Jinan University. As of now, the company has applied for more than 100 patents and obtained more than 70 approvals.

Investor opinion:

Zhihui Zhang, Deputy General Manager of CNNC Fund, stated that Emgo-Tech is one of the few high-quality enterprises in China's fiber laser industry that has achieved vertical integration from high-end passive components to laser equipment. It actively assists in the domestic replacement of laser wind measurement radar equipment in the wind power and military industries, and helps to achieve the "dual carbon" goal in the wind power sector. As an industrial investment platform under the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), CNNC Fund takes CNNC as the leading force and deeply cooperates with major nuclear and military enterprises, research institutes, etc., leveraging capital leverage and market mechanisms to ensure the safety of the nuclear industry chain. This investment is an important layout of CNNC Fund around the new energy field of CNNC Group, which can help improve the quality and efficiency of CNNC Group's wind power business. We hope that Emgo-Tech will continue to maintain research and development innovation in the future, and safeguard the defense, military industry, and new energy industry.
